and full of Oyster Banks within / the River near the mouth, and higher

The Water rises at the Bar 6 feet at a common Tide within / the Bar there
is from 4 to 7 fathom Water for six or seven / Miles, then the Shallows

This is apparently the original engraver's copy for Thomas Jefferys'
engraved version. The map contains the note 'The South Part of the Frying
Pan extends 7 1/2 Leagues from the Shore in Lat' 33. 32. Observ'd by Mr

1: The engraving is very similar to the manuscript version, with the addition
of the note 'Most of the Sloops from the Northward come through this Swash'
[4d, the gap in the 'CAPE FEAR SHOALS']. In this form, the map can also
be found in some examples of Jefferys' 'General Topography Of North America.'
